Aims
This course aims to equip dental professionals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to communicate effectively with deaf or hard-of-hearing patients, improve their access to care, and promote inclusive dental practice in accordance with legal and professional standards.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Understand the different types and causes of deafness and hearing loss.
- Recognise the emotional and practical barriers deaf patients face in dental settings.
- Identify how poor communication can negatively impact oral health outcomes.
- Review the legal and ethical responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and GDC Standards.
- Apply practical communication strategies before, during, and after appointments.
- Learn how to work effectively with BSL interpreters.
- Explore ways to make dental practices more accessible and inclusive.
