Course Overview:
This course is designed to equip dental professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and manage paediatric cardiorespiratory emergencies. Grounded in the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidance, this course provides step-by-step protocols for Basic Life Support (BLS) in children. Emphasis is placed on early recognition, effective intervention, and confident use of emergency equipment in dental settings.
Course Aims:
- To ensure dental professionals understand and can perform paediatric Basic Life Support in line with national standards.
- To promote effective emergency response to paediatric collapse in dental practices.
- To reinforce the importance of preparation, training, and post-incident review.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Define paediatric age categories as used in BLS protocols.
- Identify and respond appropriately to signs of paediatric cardiorespiratory arrest.
- Demonstrate the correct sequence for child BLS including airway management, rescue breaths, chest compressions, and AED use.
- Apply the correct technique and depth for paediatric chest compressions.
- Describe the recovery position steps and when it should or should not be used.
- Understand post-resuscitation requirements including documentation, debriefing, and legal obligations.
- Recognise the required emergency equipment and training standards for UK dental practices.
