Course Overview
This course equips dental professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to recognise and manage adult cardiac arrest using the Basic Life Support (BLS) algorithm outlined by the Resuscitation Council UK. It covers the recognition of cardiac arrest, the BLS sequence, AED use, and the legal and professional responsibilities in a dental setting.
Course Aims
- To ensure dental professionals can recognise adult cardiac arrest promptly.
- To provide up-to-date training in Basic Life Support techniques according to the Resuscitation Council UK 2021 guidelines.
- To increase confidence in using an AED and performing CPR in dental practice.
- To reinforce the legal and ethical obligations of dental teams during a medical emergency.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key signs of adult cardiac arrest.
- Perform adult BLS, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, effectively.
- Safely and confidently use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Follow appropriate emergency protocols within the dental setting.
- Understand the importance of teamwork, preparation, and equipment in medical emergency response.
