Overview:
Health and safety are essential to ensuring high standards of care in dental practice. This course provides dental professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the legal responsibilities, risk management strategies, infection control, radiation and fire safety, manual handling, and staff wellbeing measures required to maintain a safe clinical environment.
Aims:
- To provide dental professionals with essential knowledge of UK health and safety legislation relevant to dental practice.
- To equip participants with practical strategies for managing and mitigating risks in the dental workplace.
- To promote a culture of safety, infection prevention, and wellbeing among the dental team.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify key legislation and regulatory requirements governing health and safety in dental practices.
- Conduct effective risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
- Apply best practices in infection prevention and control, including HTM 01-05 standards.
- Understand radiation, fire, sharps, and manual handling safety requirements.
- Promote staff wellbeing and respond to workplace emergencies effectively.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and related regulations
- Perform risk assessments and manage identified hazards in the dental environment.
- Implement infection control measures in line with HTM 01-05.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards under IRR and IR(ME)R.
- Recognise and manage fire safety, manual handling, and emergency protocols.
- Support mental health and promote wellbeing among staff members.
