Course Overview
This course introduces leaners to the principles and practice of clinical photography. It covers equipment, patient preparation, standardised views, infection control, and data protection. Learners will gain the skills to capture high-quality, standardised images for diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, legal documentation, and marketing.
Aims
- To provide dental nurses and support staff with the knowledge and skills to assist with or carry out high-quality clinical photography.
- To highlight the role of clinical photography in diagnosis, treatment planning, patient communication, and compliance with professional standards.
Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the importance and uses of clinical photography in dentistry.
- Identify the essential equipment required for high-quality dental photography.
- Prepare patients and equipment appropriately before taking photographs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of standardised extraoral and intraoral photographic views.
- Apply best practice in infection control, patient consent, and data protection when using clinical photography.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this CPD course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of clinical photography in patient care and professional practice.
- Select and correctly use appropriate equipment (DSLR, intraoral camera, smartphone, retractors, mirrors).
- Capture consistent and standardised extraoral and intraoral images.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention, patient consent, and confidentiality.
- Support the dental team in integrating photography into diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and digital workflows.
